What is acupuncture

Acupuncture is a type of energy treatment that consists in stimulating certain specific sites of the skin, mucous membranes, or subcutaneous tissues of the body using needles, for the purpose of relieving pain or improving health.

The acupuncturist regulates the energetic circulation of the Qi (energy) by stimulating certain acupuncture points.  When the Qi is abundant and circulates without interference, the body receives the nutrients and vitality it needs to assure his multiple functions (digestion, elimination, breathing, oxygenation, healing of tissues…).

Acupuncture is generally done using needles, but the acupuncturist can also use other instruments and techniques: cupping, guasha, moxa, electromagnetic lamp, electric stimulation, bleeding, tuina…  The acupuncturist can also give lifestyle advice to help consolidate the results of the treatment and avoid recurrences.

An energetic evaluation and a heath assessment are normally done during the 1st appointment.  After determining the energetic diagnosis, the acupuncturist inserts the needles and/or uses other techniques to stimulate acupuncture points.

The number of treatments depends on the state of health and the age of the patient, the intensity of the symptoms and the duration of the problem.
